Welcome to the island of Verona! This remote island off the coast of Italy was named after the location of one of Mr William Shakespeare's most well known works: Romeo and Juliet. And as such, we have made it our home for the epic battle that is about to ensue!

Over the past 3 years, thirteen games of Survivor have been successfully finished here on the Town of Salem Forums. From these games have come some of the most phenomenal players the forums have ever seen; many would say they are....Champions. But before they could become Champions, everyone had an initial hurdle to get over- being a first time player. Before they could become a Champion, they first had to start as a Contender. But the question is, who is superior? A new player who rose to glory on their first attempt, or a returning player who learned from their mistakes and became a Champion. Who could win? Someone who has no target on their back, or someone who has made waves and is prepared for the storm to come? These are the questions that we will soon be answering. In this game, 10 people who have never COMPLETED a game of Forum Survivor prior to Survivor Ragnarok will take on 10 people who have made a name for themselves after completing AT LEAST one game of Forum Survivor in an epic battle to Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast everyone to become the Sole Survivor, all with three twists that will shake up the game, and a new theme. This game will feature a Shakespeare theme- each episode will be based on a Play written by William Shakespeare (as well as one or two by Christopher Marlowe because they have incredibly similar styles and may have even been the same person if the conspiracy theories are to be believed). But first, since we have a need for 10 new players, let's introduce the basics:

Game Mechanics: Spoiler: The game will start with 20 people divided into two tribes of 10. Each round of the game, or "Episode" will feature a challenge and an elimination. Once a certain amount of players, the tribes merge into one. Once only three people remain in the game, a jury made up of people who were voted out later in the game will vote for the winner. There are two phases to each episode in this game:

Challenge Phase: During this phase, players will compete in a challenge to win Immunity for their tribe. Whichever tribe wins the challenge is safe for the round and will not be at risk of elimination. The tribe that loses will go to Tribal Council and vote someone from their tribe out of the game. The challenge phase typically lasts 24 hours. After the merge, the challenges are for Individual Immunity, meaning the person who wins is safe from being voted out of the game.

Tribal Phase: During this phase, players will have 24 hours to decide who they would like to vote out of the game, as well as decide if they would like to play any Hidden Immunity Idols or Advantages they may have (see Idols/Advantages section). There will also be a discussion where the host (myself) will ask players questions about their game. After 24 hours are over, the votes will be read live in the tribe's private chat, and whoever has the most votes is voted out of the game. Before the Merge, only the tribe that loses the challenge must participate in the vote. After the Merge, however, everyone will participate in the vote, regardless of who won the challenge. The votes will always be kept anonymous until the end of the game.

Idols/Advantages: Their are various ways in which a player can earn something that will help them get further in the game- one of these ways is by finding a Hidden Immunity Idol. These Idols are hidden in various locations, and can be found by solving puzzles or cracking codes that may lead you to various locations on the Town of Salem Forums, posts on the discord server, or even possibly offsite! All you need to know is that the idols are well hidden, are not hidden by any consistent means, and there will never be more than three in play at once. Once an idol has been hidden, everyone in the game will be notified. However, you will likely need a clue to have any luck finding one whatsoever. There are various ways that clues can be discovered and vary depending on the clue and the Idol. If you find a Hidden Immunity Idol, it can save you from being voted out of the game, even if you have the most votes cast against you! Once you have an idol, you will be given the choice to play it at each vote you attend, either for yourself or for another player. Whoever you play your idol on, any votes cast against that person will not count, and whoever has the next highest amount of votes will be voted out instead. Idols must be played BEFORE the votes are read, and you may do so by either playing it when you cast your vote, or playing it live when the host (myself) asks if anyone has a Hidden Immunity Idol and would like to play it. You also have the option to set up reactionary Idol plays by posting in your confessional something like this: "If [player name] has an idol played on them, then I will play my idol on [player name]"
In order to find idols, you will want to familiarize yourself with the Town of Salem Forums, as well as the Forum Survivor Main Hub. For more information on discrepancies that could be caused by Idols, see the ECO at the bottom of the post. The last time an Idol or Advantage can be played is when there are 6 people left in the game, unless otherwise stated.
There are also various other Advantages you can earn, but these will be given out rather than hidden as part of one of the three twists mentioned earlier (See Outcast's Revenge for more information). The types of advantages could vary, but here are some of the common advantages you often see: Extra vote, Steal a vote, Vote Block, Idol Clues, etc. There will be some new Advantages in this game that aren't listed here.

The Twists: Spoiler: As mentioned before, this game will feature 3 twists that will shake up this game. Two of these Twists will be kept a secret until further notice, but the first will be revealed right now:

Outcast's Revenge: Let's face it, no one likes being voted out. So, this twist will change that by giving those voted out the Power to influence the game for those who are still playing. Here's how it works: Once voted off, you will become an Outcast. At predetermined points in the game, during the Challenge phase, the Outcasts will be gather at the Outpost and vote on either a twist that will affect that episode, or vote on who to give an advantage to. If there is a tie for this vote, RNG will break the tie. And, fear not! Just because you are an Outcast does not mean you have lost all hope. Because, once the tribes merge, one of the Outcasts will get to re-enter the game and will be given a second chance to play. But beware, this is the ONLY opportunity to return to the game after being voted out.

Twist 2: Each of you will be paired up with a member of the opposite tribe. You will have a special chat on the server which will remain open for the entirety of the game, meaning you will be able to communicate with each other despite the fact that you will not be on the same tribes, AND you will be able to communicate if one of you is voted out and sent to the Outpost, meaning you can potentially influence the decisions of the Outcasts while still in the game! And there's more: after one of the Outcasts gets back in the game, if you and your lover are still in the game, you will be entered in a drawing to win a special prize that could help you moving forward in the game!
There's a lot of strategic depth with this twist, so use it wisely!

Twist 3: ????????

So, how do you join? You may apply to join the game as either a Champion or a Contender based on whichever category you fall into. Once you apply, you will be sent a series of interview questions, which I will use to determine who makes the cut. Those who apply as Contenders have a much higher likelihood of being in the game simply because of supply and demand. That said, if the Demand (read: interest) is high for Contenders, I may increase the player count to 24.

How to Apply:
Champions:
1) You must have completed one or more game of Survivor hosted through the Town of Salem Forums. Regardless of placement, all applications will be considered.
2) Games completed must have been completed as of this post, meaning those participating in Survivor Ragnarok may not count that as a game nor refer to it in your application. Participation in games of Big Brother, Betrayal, or any canned game of Survivor do not count. Any game which you replaced out of/ quit before the game was complete do not count. However, you may reference these games if you wish, so long as it is not Ragnarok as that game is currently ongoing.
3) simply type /apply as a Champion

Contenders:
1) You must have never finished a game of Survivor hosted through the Town of Salem Forums. If you participated in a game that was canned or one that you quit, you still are eligible to be a Contender (though justification for the latter will be asked within your interview).
2) Offsite games and games of Big Brother, Betrayal, or any canned game of Survivor do not count against you being eligible to be a Contender, though you may reference these games in your application if you wish.
3) simply type /apply as a Contender.

Rules:
By applying to play in this game, you are indicating that you have read and understand the entire post as well as the following list of rules.
1) No harassment, racism, homophobia, or any form of discrimination will be tolerated.
2) All Town of Salem rules apply. If you are not familiar, read up!
3) You must have discord to play this game. No form of communication outside of the approved discord chats is allowed. You may create alliance chats with other players, but I MUST be included in any and all alliance chats. You may only create chats with people who are on the same tribe as you unless otherwise stated.
4) Absolutely no screenshots or copy and pasting of any private message from a moderator or another player is allowed. Simply put: This is a game of lying and social deception. If you can prove someone is lying by posting a screenshot or proof of them doing so, it defeats the purpose of lying in the first place.
5) The host's word is final. Any discrepancies within the rules of the game are solely my discretion.
6) Participation in each challenge and vote is Mandatory. Failure to participate in a challenge or get your vote in before the deadline will result in an activity strike. If you get three activity strikes, you are out of the game and will not participate in the Outcast's Revenge Twist or the Jury. In the event that you fail to vote before the deadline, you will receive a self vote at that Tribal Council as well.
7) You MUST vote at Tribal Council when required. You may not purposely vote for yourself, you MUST vote for another player unless otherwise stated.
8) There will be no replacements in this game unless it is very early in the game. If it is beyond Episode 3 or a suitable replacement cannot be found for a modkilled player or a player who quits, their slot is simply modkilled and the game continues without them. If a slot is modkilled during the challenge phase, the vote will go through as planned. But, if the modkill happens during the Tribal Council phase, the vote will most likely be cancelled and the next challenge phase will begin. There is a bit of gray area for the former scenario, but I will address that on a case by case basis. In the event that a player causes themselves to be tied with the most votes by self voting, there will not be a revote, and the player who self voted is out automatically.
9) By signing up for this game, you are committing to the entire game. Whether you go the distance or are the first one voted out, you must participate adequately in the entire game. You will be required to be online for at least 5 minutes every 24 hours, but it is highly recommended that you are online for far longer. Some challenges will be subdivided into 12 hour or shorter phases, but you will know ahead of time if this is the case.
10) No alts allowed! Because of the nature of this game, you must play as yourself. Anyone found attempting to apply as a Contender using an alt will be blacklisted from all ToS Survivor related games, as well as any game hosted by myself.
11) Most important: Be nice! No one like an asshole! Remember this is just a game and games are supposed to be fun, so please keep a minimum on the salt levels.

Tips for New Players: Spoiler: 1) Be active, as active as you can. More often than not, early boots are those who aren't showing as much effort as the others, especially among new players.
2) Don't be afraid to make alliances. This is the best way to advance your game, by talking to people in your tribe and building connections. This is especially important early on in the game, as those could be the connections that get you to the end.
3) Don't be afraid to lie. In fact, it is highly likely that you will need to lie to someone at some point to get through this game.
4) Blindsides: they work incredibly well. Telling someone that you're voting them out can often be catastrophic, especially if that person has the social capital to turn the vote around and prevent themselves from getting voted out. Many players will get voted out without necessarily seeing it coming, and this is often the most effective way to eliminate bigger threats.
5) Always watch your back: you never know when your closest ally could be betraying you to get further in the game. The more you talk to people, the easier it will become to figure out if something fishy is going on.
6) Don't be afraid to make moves, as long as they're the right moves: You are very unlikely to win this game by sitting back and letting others take the wheel. Whether you play boldly or under the radar, be sure you're not just following along with what everyone else wants you to do. But at the same time, don't put yourself too far into the spotlight, as this could paint a massive target on your back
7) Be able to think outside the box: if you find yourself in a tricky situation, do your best to remember all the connections you have and use them to work your way out of it, especially if you're afraid that the person you want out of the game has an idol. An effective strategy to work around this (if done correctly) is to split the votes between two targets so that if one of them plays an idol, you can still get someone you're not aligned with out of the game.

ECO (Encyclopedia of Controversial Occurrences):
Spoiler: Tied Votes: In the event that there is a tie for the most votes, a revote will occur, where everyone except those in jeopardy will vote for one of the people who are tied for the most votes. If this does not break the tie, the vote becomes Deadlocked. Idols may not be played during this revote.

Deadlocked Votes: In the event that a tied vote is unable to be broken, a different method will be used to break the tie depending on when the tie occurs: If there's a Deadlock in the Final 4, the two players with the most votes will compete in a "Fire making challenge" (which will be a jigsaw puzzle). Whoever "makes fire" the quickest stays in the game, and the loser is out. A deadlock using this method is yet to be used.
Any other tied vote scenario: Everyone except those who have immunity and those who are tied with the most votes are safe, and everyone else will be subject to a Rock Draw, which essentially means one player will be eliminated at random. This mechanic is in play to prevent players from forcing a tie. A deadlock of this nature has happened twice throughout Forum Survivor history. However, in the event that 1 or fewer players are eligible to be eliminated by a rock draw, the firemaking tie breaker will be used instead.

Idol/Advantage related: If multiple idols are played cancelling out every vote cast, a new vote will begin. Those who played an idol will be treated as though they have individual immunity. This is treated as a completely new vote, which means a revote will be held if necessary due to a tie.
If a player has an Idol or Advantage and is voted out, that Idol/Advantage is considered dead and is no longer usable, even if that player were to return to the game.
If an idol is used/taken out of the game, a new one may or may not be hidden in its place depending on how late in the game is. There will never be more than 3 idols in play. General rule of thumb for late game: take the amount of players left in the game and divide by 3 and round down. That's usually the amount of idols I would ideally keep in the game at that point if I were to put a new idol into circulation.
Passing off idols: you may, if you wish, give your idol to another player. However, once you do so, it is no longer yours, and you have no say over how it is used. The person you give it to will be notified that you gave it to them. You may not give it to a player on the opposing tribe unless they are your Lover or otherwise stated. You MUST give your idol away BEFORE any votes are read. You may not give away an idol while votes are being read. If there is a tie, you cannot give your idol away during the revote.

Tie in the Final Vote: Though the amount of people on the jury make it impossible for a 3-way tie for the winner to exist, it is possible for there to be a 2-way tie for the Winner of the game. If this happens, one of two things will happen:
1) if the tie is between two players but there are other votes on the third player, those who voted for that 3rd player will be asked to change their vote to one of the 2 who are tied for the win.
2) if the tie is between two players and the third player did not receive any votes or the above method did not break the tie, the third player will become the deciding vote between the other two.

Anything not listed here is within my discretion, though I will never be purposefully unfair to any particular player.

Other things to note:
Spoiler: This game will have twists, but it's no fun if I tell you what they are! Anything that has been done on the TV show Survivor or could reasonable be done on the show is fair game here, but the following twists WILL NOT appear in this game: Idol Nullifier, eliminate a juror, Forced Fire Making Challenge in the final 4, Free Idols for the player who gets back in the game after being voted out.

And that's it! Remember, to join, simply type /apply as a Champion/Contender (whichever is applicable).
