This is a bad idea. And why would you be playing in an NFM anyways?

If you were to play in an NFM then that'd mean you'd be replacing in. If you think that NFM is too inactive then don't replace in. NFM has its flaws but this isn't one of them. Some people may be too timid. The games only have 13 people in them anyways too so it's not going to have the same activity as a 20 player standard. If people are too inactive they'll be prodded and replaced. If they're inactive to the point where they flake off of the site then they probably won't be rejoining the queue. Two years ago there was a problem in NFM with a lot of people in the queue, but a good percentage of them joined and never returned to the forums afterwards. Games would take a while to fill as people on the queue who were still interested in playing would be contacted. I am not familiar with recent NFM games but mel has referenced to something similar happening. Blocking people from playing in a game because they were inactive in one exacerbates that issue too.

Also, while I have no qualms over WotC or WotM processes being implemented in games, I think that they should be selectively applied. An SFM that took a while to develop and maybe even some TFMs can run wisdom systems well. Standards should be open to all. People who get wisdomed out shouldn't be plucked from the game solely because of activity. The purpose is to use it on players who threaten to spoil the game environment. James and Understood are good examples of that. A less active player is not, unless all they do is troll and refuse to contribute.

Ice, a spoiled environment would include a game full of inactives.

Having WotM would save aLOT of time, where you wouldn't have 7 people replacing out at once.
And 90% of the time, half the game doesn't confirm their Rolecard PM, even if they have 24 hours to do so.
That number would be almost halved with WotM.

Why would an NFM be canned for not filling up quite yet?
How does that work?

Anyways this was just an idea I wanted to toss around, I thought, "hey, maybe this might do smth for the activity."

Yeah I guess. But it wouldn't REALLY take that long.

moonbird wrote:If there's legitimate problems with a certain player's activity, i.e. they're consistently flaking, then that's an issue and we'll deal with it as it comes. Aside from that, it's difficult to really weed through NFM, since it is to give people that laid back version of a FM game, leaving open the opportunity for them to ramp it up if they want or need.

Having WOTM or excluding certain players who have an inactivity offense just kinda dangles this aura of exclusiveness over FM, which isn't something I think this community should ever value or really promote in general games.

I think better motivators for activity is giving people a reason to play. It's not replacing out if you're an IC in the game, in lack of extenuating circumstances, or having an attentive mod who's willing to encourage player involvement.

Fair.

As I said, it was just an idea I wanted to toss around a bit.

Via them telling you.
Anyways this thought is done nonetheless.
Not saying don't post, but I am putting it out there.

Edit: Also, if they are having a family emergency, why are they playing a game of FM?

Let's assume their mother died. Should they open the laptop to go on the forums to tell the mod? No, they have to arrange the funeral and comfort their family.
