We have been invited to Season 3 of The Mafia Championship!

In short, it's an international event that will feature 136 different mafia/werewolf/ToS/etc. communities, all sending one representative each to this tournament.

General Details
• 136 different communities are invited to participate.
• 8 Qualifying Games will be played with 17 players each.
• 2 players advance to the Finale Game from each game based on post-game votes.
• 1 Wildcard Game will be played (Wildcards are decided by a jury consisting of former finalists), determining the 17th and final spot in the Finale. Runner-ups in this game will be first in line to replace any finalists who may have to drop out.
• Days are 36 hours, and nights are 12 hours.

Do you want to represent this forum?
1. First, please read EVERYTHING in that google doc thoroughly.
2. After that, if you still feel you're qualified, you must then send any FM Mod a PM saying you are interested.
3. Only send a PM if you can be dedicated to this. We want someone reliable to represent this forum.
4. You have until April 14th, 8:30AM Mountain Time (One week from this post) to send us a PM. After that, we will be choosing.
5. We will name 1 nominee, and one alternate just in case.
6. If no one feels qualified, then we will not participate in this Tournament.


We must choose one representative for our forum to play in this game by April 18th.
The first game will be played on April 25th (Our representative may opt to play in a different game).
Yes, I know this is short notice, and I apologize for that (I was just contacted this week).

Okay, here's the rundown on the throwdown:

We will have a poll, and preferably it be up in 3 days time, exactly 3. Until then, anyone who feels that theu have the time and confidence is free to apply and all applicants at that time will be put up on the poll. However in the event that there are more than 30 applicants. We will remove those we feel that would garner the least amount of votes. You may dispute your removal, but for the most part I don't expect over 30 people to apply.

In the event that an applicant does not win by a true majority (51% or more) a poll will be remade with only the most popular results left. The bar will obviously will fluxuate given the turnout.

Polls will last 48 hours. 24 if we are strapped for time, but this will always be annouced when a poll starts.

You are a Spy.

Your alignment is Town Investigative.

You were once used in battle with the goal of gaining information about enemy tactics.
You were able to retire young, having gained the support of the military who in turn paid you very handsomely.
However, your stay in the town of Salem does not remain the peaceful retirement you once envisioned due to the Mafia invasion.

You can choose one player to spy on during the day and hear all whispers that player has sent to others.
You may decide to do this within the first 24 hours of the Day Phase. If you do not do this, you listen to no one during the day.
You also have the ability to see who the Mafia visit at night. You will not know what Mafia role visited which player; all you will know is that they were visited by a member of the Mafia.

Medium

You are a Medium.

Your alignment is Town Support.

You are a powerful psychic who can communicate with the dead.
The dead cannot comprehend our speech, and we cannot comprehend theirs. That is where you come in - you are the translator in the middle!

Each night you may ask any dead player a question with a 75 character limit.
The dead player can send you a 150 character answer to the question. They do not have to answer the question, nor tell the truth. However, the answer MUST be relevant only to the question, at the Game Moderator's discretion.
The dead only have until the end of the Night Phase to answer you back.
Dead players being contacted by a Medium are still permitted to private message other dead players as well.
You may ask three questions each night. They do not have to be to the same person.

A few things might be changed from the original proposal, but nothing huge.

Game Moderator Message: Lately I feel things have been somewhat toxic here.
People are disrespecting each other left and right in games, and out of games.
People are angry at the mods, and at each other.

This is not how the FM Mods want this section to be, and I hope you don't want that either.
We all have different personalities, but I still feel we can all have fun together just the same.
I would like to get back to where we had fun in games, and out of games, without people throwing insults around.
It just makes the game not fun.
Joking around is fine, but don't take it too far. You can always ask the Mod in charge if what you want to say would be taking things too far.

Let's bring the FM section back to a cool and fun place to be.
Where we could all come, just to relax and play a game of FM.
I think if we all come together, work together, and play respectfully with each other from now on, we can accomplish this.

I appreciate every one of you guys. We wouldn't be here as FM Mods if we didn't have this great community of diverse players.

Game Moderator Message: I'm addressing this rule below.

Rule 5: Do not discuss ongoing games outside of the thread unless otherwise stated.

We have been very lenient with this rule, as far as players in game, talking to players outside of the game.

I highly advise you, if you are going to talk about a game with someone not in the game, talk to just one person.
If you are not officially spectating a game (A FM Mod has not given you the details), and someone has told you their role in confidence. Do not go around telling others inside, or outside the game, their role. This is how spoilers happen.

If a player in game has come to you, and is talking to you about their game, please do not replace into that game. It does not matter what was said about the game. Anything said about it is playing the game outside of the game. Which is not fair to the other players in the game.
Or, at the very least, talk with the FM Mod in charge, tell them what was said, and ask if you may replace in.
The only exception here is if you are replacing into this persons slot. Then it is fine.

If you are in a game, and are talking to another player in the game, outside of the game thread, about the game, we will be punish players for this.

If this becomes more of a problem, we will put in place harsher rules.

I just want to say this. I don't care who you guys wanted elected here, you needed to be respectful. I was pretty disappointed in the way some of you acted here. There is no reason for it.

Let me make this clear. You need to ask the FM Mod in charge of the game if you can spectate it. Not another spectator.

If you are a spectator, do not give the information out to anyone else, please. Again, this is to prevent spoilers from happening.

I will only be allowing 2 spectators for my games.

NFM is suppose to help the newer players. It isn't fair to them if you're taking up a spot that one of them could have.

Game Moderator Message: Okay, so here's the deal. You should all have access to the "Mafia Chat" section. It contains all FM Mods personal Mafia Chats (If you have permission to view them) and the Mafia Chat Archive.
I will also be moving a couple more threads in there for a specific reason:
I do not want others to see people viewing the "Mafia Chat" index and think "Oh, this person HAS to be Mafia."

This will not be the case. They could be viewing the Archive, or other threads in there.
We will be moving our old Mafia threads into the Archive. You can view those at anytime.
I will also be moving some threads into that section. The threads may not seem like they belong there, but, it's to combat the thinking I mentioned above. I do not want a new meta created here because of that. Players should be able to go to their designated Mafia Chat without people assuming they are Mafia.

Keep in mind, if you are in the mafia, others CANNOT see you viewing individual mafia chats you have permission to read.
So, say you are in Rockfire's Mafia - no one else can see you viewing, "Rockfires Mafia Chat," except the FM Mod and other Mafia members.
However, people can see you if you are viewing the "Mafia Chat" index.

I'll likely make another announcement and post what I've moved into that section in the future.

I want to talk about and spectate the game - what do I do?

If you wish to actively spectate and show support for your representative, then there are two ways of doing this.

1) There will be a private spectator thread on the site for each game that you may request access to. Simply register on the site and PM the user "Thingyman", and I will add you. Feel free to spectate games that your representative isn't in as well. These threads are published after the game completes.

2) We have a spectator chat on Skype, with currently more than 140 people in it. It's very active and fun, I highly suggest you join it if you have Skype. Just add me: thingyman.

None of these two chats/threads will be spoiled!

Finally, we kindly ask that you refrain from commenting too much on the games in public on this forum, as the other representatives will easily be able to find and read through this (as has happened in the past). I can't control what you do here, but out of respect for the integrity of this Championship, it's best if you don't discuss your reads on your representative or the other players or make comments that could potentially indicate your reads. I.e. even something like "oh man, our representative is totally being his usual self right now" is not good. Speaking very generally about what has happened so far in the game (so as to update your fellow community members) without commenting on it is fine though.

I hope this doesn't seem too strict to you guys, but the game can become very uncomfortable (and unfair) if there is discussion about it outside of the game thread. If you want to have your own private spectator chat, that is of course also totally fine and I even encourage it (I'd love to be added if you make one of these)

TFM21: Turbo Dismount will be going up at one hour from this post.

It is a game that will have 16 minutes for Day phases, and 8 for night phases. It should last, overall, a maximum of 1 hour and a half (Barring stuff from my end, but I can take care of that). Therefore, any player may join this, regardless of number of games they are currently in.

1. Role list will be slightly changed (Not a huge change, just a change to the Mafia list)

Agent is new Agent.

With no Janitor, AKA the most confirmable scum role, the scumlist is for the most part completely hidden. Consort is still there, but, it also has Escort to hide back on, or can even do the kills. It isn't a necessity like Janitor to use every night in this setup.

The first line is the role Mafia focus on essentially. Communication, shutting down PRs, and mass information. Consigliere and Mafioso both act as supporting roles and mesh well in any team but they aren't central roles. Disguiser and Framer are also supportive but are more niche than the other two.

Your alignment is Mafia Support.

You were a brilliant Spy in your early days, one of the best in the country. However, on one mission you were captured - by the Godfather.
To your great surprise, he wanted to help you retire after all your years of service. The deal was simple. Use your talents to collect sensitive information from the townsfolk and he will rule to grant you whatever you want in this silly little town.

You can choose one player to spy on during the day. You will be informed if this player visits others at night.
Each night you also have the ability to plant a bug on a person. The bug will allow you to see who they visit that night, or if they do at all.
As well the bug will inform you what feedback they receive at the end of the night.
You can communicate with your allies each night, for as long as they are alive.

Spoiler: There will be two waiting lists. One for newcomers, and one for non-newbies (Have played 3+ games).
The first 9 slots will always be newbies.
The last 4 slots will be designated for non-newbies.
You do not have to be "experienced" or feel that you are "experienced."
You just have to have 3 games under your belt to be a non-newbie.
If there are not enough non-newbies on the waiting list to fill the 4 slots, then newbies will get to auto-fill those slots.

We feel this will be an overall better NFM experience. All players can just play the game, and not have to worry about "teaching" or "reviews." Plus adding a mixture of players who have already played the game moves the game along more smoothly, while also getting people prepared for advanced games.

This may not be the ultimate solution for NFM. But, it's something we want to try out.

I will be implementing this change to the NFM OP in a few.
