Potential Episodes Replacement

This is the second wall that I'm writing to Discussions but luckily this one is a lot more fun. We want to revamp Episodes.


What does that mean?

Well, we're not totally sure yet. Here's what we've got in the works:

• A biannual higher-stakes game similar to Episodes. Joining requirements would be roughly the same as Episodes.
• To be co-hosted by the FM Mods.
• Once in the Summer (June/July) and once in the Winter (December/January)
• Something in the realm of VFM or Standard. The setup may change game to game.
• Prizes! We want to keep factional-winning prizes from Episodes, but we also want to give spectators the ability to vote on MVP's and other similar categories.
• This system would replace the current Episodes system.

So, we're liking this thus far, but need a bit of help..... we need prizes. We're hopelessly uncreative and want to look to y'all for what you might want to see given out as prizes for this type of thing if it comes into effect.

Here's what we're looking for in prize ideas (or rather, what we're not looking for):

• NOT something that we need higher permissions on the forums to do. So, sadly, stuff like flairs, name color changes, etc are off the docket. As y'all can tell from recent episode winners, those flares aren't really... uh... coming out any time soon. Sorry to break the ice there.
• NOT something monetary. So, no gift cards, venmo requests, etc. The mods are college / recently post-undergraduate students. We don't have the cash for that type of thing.
• NOT something that majorly disrupts how games are run on site. For example: "the MVP gets to spearhead a game through without getting a balance pass!"

Feel free to pitch prize ideas below, since honestly we need the creative help.

edit: maybe putting the mvp's name in the "flair" can do the trick. but people can photoshop that lol.

It’s a matter of trust anyway. I don’t mind the winners getting a privilege to add some sort of picture to their sig/avatar

Pinned wall of fame is very doable.

A lot of people have signatures off, so maybe that's less ideal? Idk.

Discord stuff is also fine, so special discord roles is valid as well.

i do agree that combining the episodes and the "mafia awards" which we had before is a good idea since they both kind of died and it'd be a good throwback

i think it's fine if people put "x game mvp!" in their sig, nobody in our fm community is dumb enough to steal that, at least i think so
the hall of fame sounds good too, the discord things are small but nice too

I don't see a need for discord flairs that much (aside from the plain "Episode XY winner") as including colors when everyone can just request for one is just weird.
Aside from vanity incentives (a pinned thread that says you did good or Discord roles), there isn't anything much other than the feel-good ego boost and bragging rights.

since there's little enforcement in the forums that FM can currently have there's really no other answer other than listing them down as winners and discord roles

in signups and playerlist make their name golden and have a star next to it or something of that sort
basically a less important flair but doable by anyone
could be a rotating thing that dissapears after the next episode ends to avoid confusion
as like a subtle flex that you can notice as like a ''o shit this man is golden, must be important'' kinda thingy

yellow can be overall mvp you can add red for best mafia, green for best town ect..
but it wouldnt exactly work if you just ''won'' like previously

is it not possible for the permissions to be setup so that FM mods can edit/add flairs?
As im pretty sure that currently the problem is that TP is the only one who can do it.
That being said im not phpbb expert and have no idea how much of a hassle it would be.

creating usergroups requires administrator privs iirc

im not sure how long the queues are right now but we could have a queue skip. Obviously the game would still need to be balance checked but a fast forward could be nice

I mean it's just dumb to copy it and as ryan said, some people have signatures turned off. I like the idea of voting on MVPs and other similar categories. I don't like the idea of an MVP winner or whatever being moved up the hosting queue, it isn't fair to people who have waited patiently.

So far, it seems like the pinned wall of fame idea is most feasible. Another idea I have is to have a correlation with the best players in episodes and Mafia Championship eligibility. Not sure how you'd go about this, but in theory it could be a way recognize strong play in a higher stakes game. Maybe give the MVP a leg up on their chances of being our representative?
