vigilante = daredevil
daredevil = good
vigilante != evil

i remember i had a conversation about this a short while ago with someone

Basically, it depends on perception of the term.
think of any movie with a vigilante type person
Daredevil, Punisher, hell, even Batman

The movie makes you think they are "good guys," no?
this is purely because you are focused on the perspective of the vigilante themselves.
they feel that they are helping the town through killing "evil people"
and thats the moral of the story

but think about it from a common citizen's perspective, or anyone that doesn't know whats going on, like batman or the audience
They just know that someone is going around killing people because they had a tragic backstory and want revenge
this isn't "good"
they are still killing
its still illegal
they are just killing the connotated "bad guys"
