There is a "joke phase" or a "Random Voting Stage (RvS)" Day 1 in almost every game.

But PL's are very necessary if you have no info.

Let me add something in, FM, unlike ToS, relies heavily on reads, there's a big chance nothing will be found N1 and N2 while mafia just get free kills

Yes I know it relies mainly on leads
But it is still a bad move to just randomly lynch someone
Yes d1 you might not be able to get something
But the statistics of hitting mafia are slim and your better of just not lynching d1 then doing so as your causing more deaths to happen

PL's are definitely necessary if you don't have leads, but then there are days where no voting is better.
