Ranked Suggestion

Town of Salem is meant to be a game of deception, where the ability of a player or a group to trick the rest allows them to win games. In ranked, the biggest hit to this concept is having the rolelist displayed for all players to see: it turns the game into a numbers game where process of elimination ruins even the best attempts.

Ranked should have multiple potential rolelists, with one being selected for each match, and it should be hidden from all players, forcing them to actually interrogate and logically deduce who is good v evil. For evil roles especially, this would help give them a better chance to win, and change the attitude that causes so many players to quit, another issue in ToS.

I've also posted this suggestion on the ToS subreddit.

No, even with RT TS TK TI, there's still a set number of town, 9. So once claims come in people can crosscheck with the rolelist and drastically narrow down who is evil. The rolelist should be completely hidden start-to-finish so players have to use in-game chat and role interactions to determine truth v lies.

dont bring up ranked all any pls

but no, they suggest that there are different rolelists to keep town on their toes. So different amount of tps, ts, maybe an extra jester, just a few extra things to keep town on their toes.

There's no way to actually balance around multiple rolelists.

Is it a game of deception tho? Only for evils..... for town it always has been a game of POE. 2 different strats for 2 opposing factions, how would you suggest it becomes a game of deception for town?

Town should develop strategies to keep their roles known to them and not mafia. Utilize the whisper function, feed false info to maf. For example, a TP saying they'll self heal and then switching to Jailor at night; town should have as solid an info-sharing network during the day as mafia has at night.

I dont suggest ranked be all any. A balanced rolelist should be used, just players shouldn't be able to see it during gameplay.

In theory this would be a good idea, but it won't work in the actual ToS game, for the same reason that adding citizens wouldn't work. A ToS game lasts about 20 minutes, which is not nearly enough time for a game to be solved by scumreading alone. Having power roles with a known set of possibilities is necessary for the town to have a reasonable chance.
