Spanish suggestion: translate role names

Postby Joacgroso » Sun Sep 20, 2020 12:33 pm

Something that always bothered me about the spanish version is that none of the roles or factions have their names translated, even though most of them can easily be translated. I think it would be nice if the names were changed. Here are my suggestions:
Spoiler: Town=Pueblo
Doctor=Doctor
Bodyguard=Guardaespaldas
Trapper=Trampero
Crusader=Cruzado
Sheriff=Sheriff
Investigator=Investigador
Spy=Espía
Tracker=Rastreador
Psychic=Psíquico
Lookout=Guardia (a better translation would be vigilante, but it would cause confusion)
Vigilante=Justiciero
Veteran=Veterano
Jailor=Carcelero
Vampire hunter=Caza vampiros
Escort=Escolta
Transporter=Transportador
Medium=Medium
Retributionist=Retribuidor/retribucionista
Mayor=Alcalde

Mafia=Mafia
Godfather=Padrino
Mafioso=Mafioso
Ambusher=Asaltante
Framer=Incriminador
Disguiser=Impostor (disfrazador would be a more literal translation, but that word feels too unnatural).
Janitor=Conserje
Hypnotist=Hipnotizador
Forger=Falsificador
Consigliere=Consigliere
Blackmailer=Chantajista
Consort=Consorte

Coven=Aquelarre
Coven leader=Líder del aquelarre (since it's a bit too long, it could be translated to "reina bruja", which means "queen witch" and it's a bit shorter).
Medusa=Medusa
Poisoner=Envenenadora
Hex master=Hechicera (which means "Sorceress", since the actual translation "maestra de las maldiciones" would be way too long).
Necromancer=Nigromante
Potion master=Alquimista (a more literal translation would be "maestra de las pociones", but again, too long).

Neutral=Neutral
Amnesiac=Amnésico
Survivor=Sobreviviente
Guardian Angel=Angel guardián
Jester=Bufón
Executioner=Ejecutor
Witch=Bruja
Serial killer=Asesino serial
Arsonist=Pirómano
Werewolf=Hombre lobo
Juggernaut=Juggernaut
Vampire=Vampiro
Pirate=Pirata
Plaguebearer=Portador
Pestilence, horseman of the Apocalypse=Pestilencia, jinete del Apocalípsis

What do you think?

I still hope one day the game will have private lobbies. They would really help.
Also, please nerf vampire hunters.

"Reina Bruja" is probably better than "Líder del aquelarre". Aside from being shorter, it sounds better as a title. "Líder del aquelarre" seems more like a description than a name/title to me, and "Reina Bruja" is linked to Witch's translated name "Bruja".

Besides that, 100% /support and I'm surprised the names of roles/factions weren't already translated

Lookout would probably be better as Observador.

Supported regardless.

When I made ToS cards irl I translated lookout as observador, but it didn't feel natural to me. I think vigilante is the best translation, but of course it would be too confusing.

Only other one I can think of is Espectador.

But a spectator is someone who watches shows, not someone who watches people. "Guardia" seems fine, since according to the lore the lookout is a former watchman.

In spanish, a vigilante is like a security guard, who watches a zone. It has nothing to do with taking law into your own hands.

I kinda took the idea from there. That game is everywhere, and it wouldn't sound bad. "Disfrazador" is way too unnatural.

"impostor" honestly fits pretty well imo
