Executioner Deception Buff

Postby Villagerlover » Tue Jan 08, 2019 6:33 pm

The Executioner should know the role of their target.

This should be implemented because it can give more incentive for players to come up with more mind-boggling ways to deceive the town and plan ahead of time on how they'll get their target lynched. It would especially be helpful if your target happened to be a role that is hard to get lynched like the veteran or transporter. If you know ahead of time that they were practically an unclaimable role, then it opens up a chance for the Executioner to decide what they're going to do about it.

I think that this is too powerful. Executioner feels balanced at the moment, difficult but balanced.
toz means fart in Arabic.

Just thought everyone should know.

I'd say exe is already overpowered. I already win most the time D2 when playing exe.

I wouldn't say they are OP, since they have no abilities. It's all up to the player's skill and luck.

I don't feel the Executioner is "overpowered" or "balanced" at all. The Executioner has no real abilities other than having the attribute of basic defense. On top of that, it's not at all balanced if your target happens to be a retributionist or transporter....something ridiculously hard to get lynched unless the town is as dumb as a sack of peanuts.

If the Executioner knew their target's role, they can pre-plan ahead of time how they will get their target lynched. It only helps the Executioner.

The only buff to exe I can see getting implemented is increasing the list of roles that can not be your target.
Currently it is: Jailor, Mayor
It should also include: Veteran, Retributionist, Transporter, Vampire Hunter
You can call me Bod.
No, that's not my real name. Thanks for asking.

I'm guessing not when you frame a Transporter or Retri, though.

Unless Town is dumb as mince, they'll give readily confirmable roles a chance to prove while they have a comfortable majority. And since neither Retri or Trans is going to pre-emptively reveal, a D2 claim means a ballsy frame on limited info, which'll swiftly get you confirmed and ignored.

At the moment, a lot of Exe wins boil down to a he says / she says stand-off where Town side with the accuser over the accused when neither can be proven. As a result, Exe is encouraged to claim TI and roll the dice early before other Town roles are confirmed and build up enough information to disprove the Exe's accusation. The alternative, trying to hold out until Maf takes control and agrees to lynch your target, is significantly less likely compared to a thumping Town win, and you have limited ways to get yourself "confirmed" temporarily as Town that don't involve shafting the allies you'd need to ultimately pull off a win.

Villager's suggestion would allow the Exe to plan their approach more deviously, rather than having to adapt on the fly and rely heavily on blind luck. I quite like it, and would certainly be interested in seeing it tested out.

Can't say I've ever had a trans as a target. Gotten retri lynched in a janitor game though.

That's a single event in comparison to everything else.

If we're including lucky situations, I've got a retri lynched after he'd rezzed someone by counterclaiming him. He was the only TS claim at that point, I saw the Jailor get rezzed and for whatever reason he didn't whisper straight off, so I did and dived in to claim retri. Fine, there was a bit of skill involved in lying persuasively and being switched on enough to take the plunge, but the primary reason I won was luck and a stupid, avoidable mistake on his part. The ret could easily have been one of the unclaimed roles - if it had been, and my target had been RT TS, I'd have been screwed.

That's the point, really. I like Exe, but at higher ELO where Town doesn't tend to make exploitable mistakes for your convenience, you're very heavily reliant on luck. If you knew your target's role, that would let you start planning from the outset how you want to deal with them.

or Executioner shouldn't get Town Support aka Town auto confirm as a target. (Escort kinda meh because Consort but still it's semi confirmed)

That being said most roles need to be less confirmed. like Transporter and Retri.
Reeee.
