We are going to be working on keeping the community clean. We will be improving many aspects of the trial system moving forward.

This will include my account, but we do need to make sacrifices here.

I don't think limiting the playerbase to paid users is worse than letting bots and rulebreakers run rampant on alts, tbh.

This won’t affect me too much due to I played coven mostly so I got few bots to begin with but I’m happy that the game has this now it will make games higher quality thank you devs of tos

(Also it should be Godfathered into the system not grandfathered in)

I kinda figured something like this would happen. I feel it's the better choice, and hopefully with more income I could see a lot more new features added to Town of Salem sooner or later.

Worth the $5 anyway for such a good gameplay, and especially the soundtrack.

Talk about Fing bad timing. So what does this mean for me?

How many people hear think Shapesifter13 is a bot or a botter? Such a generic and thoughtless response.

Very happy with this. It must of been a very hard discussion to come to Achillies and Pyro but im glad you decided to take the hard road and put this measure up in place.

Also with the extra revenue you guys will be getting hopefully this game will become so much cooler and better! Can't wait to see where TOS will be heading toward. People will be much more scared of leaving games/possibly being reported since they have the chance of being banned and having to PAY to play again. Actually the longer i write the post the more fantastic i feel this decision was.

SUPER happy! looking forward to the future of TOS :D

I am happy with this change, but if your only intention was to stop the bots, why make it 5 bucks?

Well, this is... interesting. You can't control the bot problem, so the solution is to punish those who want to legitimately sign up in the future? I started this game recently, having seen friends from a Discord Mafia server playing it. It looks like I joined just in time to avoid the pay-to-play change. One of my housemates, upon hearing about it, thought that he'd like to try it, due to the short game time. He hasn't signed up yet, and now he'd have to pay to join. Due to the change, I doubt he will join (and I would encourage him not to), and we'll probably both (along with any other housemates that might have joined in) will find a new game to play if this change isn't reversed.

Yes! The game is now paid but can someone explain me this? I still don't get it..
shapesifter13 wrote:You are most likely already grandfathered in to the new system. All existing accounts with at least 1 game played or who has ever made a real money purchase (Steam, Web premium, Mobile premium, Coven, promotions, etc) are already grandfathered in (aka you still get to play for free). We didn’t grandfather in all accounts to prevent bringing a bunch of botter alt accounts into the new system.

A grandfathered account does not mean you now have a premium account however. If you hadn’t already purchased premium you still will not get the double merit points after the change, but you will be able to continue playing ToS for free.

Edit: Wait nvm i read this topic on reddit too and someone summarized it.

I am glad with this update as long as the "grandfathered" system works.

Basically, I seen too many times where every ranked game one person leaves the game, whether is maf (which is good cuz most of times I am townie inno) or townie inno that is prob jailor and well screw me twice.

I am ok with paying 5 dollars if I want to play coven, because its VERY cheap. Cheaper than game of thrones but again, game of thrones looks more proffesional than this game. I dont judge both tho, cuz I seen both this and that game had games on youtube, so eh? I have slightlx mixed feelings.

PS: Also thats why the servers went very slow like hours and hours ago, it was prob this update going its work.

Forced captchas and email verification were disabled. I don't think the botters have more than a few dozen alt accounts since they created new accounts everyday as we banned them. They'll probably try and have one last hurrah or maybe drag it out as long as possible but their days are numbered and they know it.

I'm sorry to hear that but if you don't feel like Town of Salem is worth 5 dollars to you or your friend then there are always other free-to-play games out there. I wish you and your friend goodluck.

its worth 10 tbh, and then once you guys fix the ret nd mafia issues ill throw any $$$ you charge on the SPOT (unless its like 40 then like idk). I love TOS so much, its UI, its aroma its music its everything. I first started playing in 10th grade and now just a month ago i graduated from HS. TOS helped me a lot with stress (or made it worse sometimes tbh cant escape dumb towns) and my analytical/observational skills. Cant give enough praise to you, pyro, shape, rick and whoever else is behind the scenes (S.O to the amazing TOS music composer!) for this game.

P2P or FTP still a great game :D
