These two are found at the very bottom of the page.

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!

Hola Townies!

The team is currently busy and have their hands full with getting 1.6 ready for release, so why don't we give them a hand with the Localization? 8-)

As one of the original promises of the Mobile, Steam, and Localization KickStarter, we said we'd translate the game into as many different languages as possible when we got the chance. Well that time is now, but we would love to have your help in doing so!

How can I help?
It's really simple! All you have to do is translate the game's XML Data sheets into another language! There will be three pages for each language, as each XML Data Sheet is split into 3 different pages to reduce loading stress on the website. A "GUI" Data Sheet, a "GAME" Data Sheet, and a "Player Statistics" Data Sheet.

Where are the Data Sheets?
The Data Sheets can be found on the Wikia for Town of Salem. The String Table page contains links to different pages with the XML Data in English, and your task is to translate the page's content into the language the page is on. (i.e: The 'German' versions of the pages need to be translated to German, Turkish into Turkish, etc.)
The text you'll be translating will be located between the "<Text></Text>" tags on the "GUI" and "GAME" pages, and for the "PlayerStatistics" pages, you'll be translating the text between the "<id></id>" tags. Everything else will stay in English. However, we ask that you only translate the pages in which you know both English and the language you'll be translating fluently. Please do not use translators, as they are unreliable.
We also ask that in languages that have multiple ways of saying a word, you go for the formal/polite versions of the words, and not any slang or "informal" terms. (i.e: German has two English "You" versions; 1 informal "du", and 1 formal "Sie". In this case you'd use "Sie".) Also feel free to correct someone's translation if you find it to be incorrect.
EDIT: For the Spanish translation, please use the Spain Spanish translation, and not the Latino Spanish translation. Thanks!

How do I translate the information on the page?'
If you've never used Wikia before, it's not too hard to learn. You also don't need an account with Wikia to edit the pages, but it'd be nice if you did so we can keep track of who is editing what. :)
Simply click the 'Edit' button to load the Visual Editor, and you can translate to your heart's content! You're encouraged to open the English pages in one window, and the language you're translating in another.
Image

If for some reason a page will not load, alert us on the Wiki by posting a comment on the page, and we will fix the issue. Until we can fix it, if you click the drop-down arrow next to 'Edit', you can select 'Classic Editor' which will put everything into simple text without anything fancy needing to be loaded, and it should let you edit it. However, we urge you to use the default Visual Editor if you can.
Image

If you have any questions about editing, you can consult this guide from Wikia's Community Central website which gives more help and information on editing Wikia pages, and if necessary you may post on a staff member's Message Wall, either my own, or Shelboo's and we will gladly help you further with anything Wikia-related :)

Will you add more languages than what's listed on the String Table page?
At the current moment, translation is focused on the languages included on the page; Spanish, Turkish, French, and German. We hope to be able to get the game into more languages soon. :)

As a bit of forewarning here, if you try to load the GUI and PlayerStatistics pages of any language, it will take a moment to load. There's too much text for Wikia to load normally, so there will be a slight delay between the time you click the 'Edit' button, and the time Wikia loads it's editor. This is normal, please do not panic, you didn't break the website. :)

If you have any questions, you may feel free to ask them here in this thread, or on Wikia, and we will be happy to answer.

Happy Translating!

To be honest it's a community based wiki anyway it would make much more sense if users were given a chance to translate it.

I would be happy to help with Russian translation when it will be possible.
For the Mother Russia! :D

But Im afraid that localization can create more non english speakers in game where nobody can understand them, unless it will be separate language servers like the turkish.

I can do the whole translation to Polish, but I'm not sure if that's the good way to go... people won't know what a TI is or what is a role called in english.

Unless you want to get more separate servers from people in different countries, but that's not good to game's health either.

I've began to translate the game into French but I've to agree with the others that it won't be good to localize the game unless it's on different server

As a german adult I don't think "Sie" would be appropriate for ToS. It's formal yes but "Du" is more personal and would feel more natural here.

Also, as I am translating a bit on the GUI German, there will be lines, where there are costs. (for instance 5.00 USD) Should I change the currency or just leave it like that, since I don't know about your business plans ;)

Hmmmm, I did some mistakes!!! (And I am the only Editor as of now luckily), I edited via the visualEditor and deleted some of the &#10; in the <Text></Text> parts, or <nowiki>&</nowiki>#10; parts (for the classical editor)

I presume those are quite important, as they will introduce a new line in the final result. I could somehow not undo my changes, except for the last. I just wanted to inform BMG and am ashamed.

Maybe reuploading the german GUI would help or if someone could undo my changes, I could redo my work this time in the classical editor

I currently cannot find anything removed in the history and everything looks great thus far! Thank you, and I think you can continue without worry!

Finished the Ingame German localization.
As written above I dislike the formal "Sie" version and went for the personal "Du". It doesn't feel right for me the other way. Well but if above orders it.

Wir sind grade ein wenig am Überlegen für passendere Übersetzungen der Rollen.
Schaut doch mal noch vorbei http://town-of-salem.wikia.com/wiki/Str ... German.xml

I do believe that the languages involved in translation will eventually be made into separate server locales, that way the English servers don't suffer, or for now, both the English and Turkish servers.

Arekusanda wrote:I've began to translate the game into French but I've to agree with the others that it won't be good to localize the game unless it's on different server

As I stated above, I do believe any languages on the Wikia are being planned for locales, or they wouldn't bother doing the localization. :)

I'll pass your concerns onto Blake, but he did clearly state he wanted the formal versions, and not personal. If you wouldn't mind fixing that until further notice, I'd appreciate it. :)

Sevensor wrote:Also, as I am translating a bit on the GUI German, there will be lines, where there are costs. (for instance 5.00 USD) Should I change the currency or just leave it like that, since I don't know about your business plans ;)

The only things to be translated are what are in the "<Text></Text>" tags on GUI and GAME, and the "<id></id>" tags on the PlayerStatistics page. Nothing else. They will do their currency exchange themselves. :)

Sidaredd wrote:Editor is very slow on me. Is there a way for downloading xml and uploading after editing ?

As stated on the original post, it's going to be slow on certain pages. However if you wish, you can go to the English live versions of the XML Data, save it as an XML page to your computer, then get a program such as Notepad++ and then copy-paste the XML data into it, and then copy-paste onto the Wiki. You will need to make sure that after you paste it back onto the wiki, it goes into the XML Tree format, and not any format it wishes. However, as suggesting, I suggest you use the Classic Editor, either Visual or Source, and change the content I specified in the original post.

Thanks guys!

Serbian isn't a current language, apologies. :( Also please make sure that the Wikia page is still in XML format when you post the translation.
