It's a really good update and I kinda hyped for this, but we have to buy taunts everytime we want to use it? I kinda dissapointed on that, I thought we could've just buy it once and have it permanently.. I wish that you guys would change it, I don't mind if you raise the price too

I'm confused. Are the taunts infinite or do you have to buy them like scrolls?

Merit Points were introduced in order to make Town Points a pure premium currency...

I feel like people aren't understanding what is actually happening here. The taunt isn't going to be a thing that forces another player into using their ability, it would be something that convinces them to use it because they might be attacked or something like that. It's optional whether you use it or not.

I do not know why taunts were considered a worthwhile addition to the game.

There should be a sexy escort or consort taunt. Or like a flirting taunt as well.

Hate that u got to use gold since its so expensive. You should have made it cost silver since its so pointless to it

That's just it. If you think it's pointless, then don't use money to buy Town Points to buy Taunts. :) It isn't necessary to play the game. Eventually it will be rotated into Merit Points, but right now it's Town Points only. Thanks.

if it effects the game it shouldnt cost anything to get or use as it would give someone with taunts an advantage over those who dont

@Achilles

I think it's great for stragetic gameplay. Just messes with the minds of all that is playing. With careful and precise decisions you can trick people into doing things. I don't see this feature in anyway to troll or grief or even be put to malicious ways. Sure the player can do whatever he wants with the taunt, but doesn't mean that they are really using it with very dark malicious means as it is just a game. There is a lot of potential with this feature and I would like it if there could be a higher price maybe 2000 Townie points or even higher for a permanent taunt and not just a number of taunts you can use. Thank you for anyone who reads and give any serious feedback or thought on this post. And keep up the great work with Town of Salem! I absolutely love the game!

Edit: I also forgot to mention. I don't think the dead should have any influence on the game whilst dead pertaining with taunts. Taunting while dead can cause some serious game influence as well as turn the tide if a townie was killed by another townie by accident. But then decides to taunt the one who killed him to just screw his mental mind and perhaps even make the killers jobs easier. Yes there is a medium and the dead can influence their game like that. But that is only through one means of way through one person. Taunt whereas is seen by everyone, not just one.

Thanks,

This is really cool. The taunts may be one time use but it's cool how cheap they are price wise. :D cool addition to the game.

The fact that these taunts aren't that gamebreaking, and can be obtained from the cauldron pretty much balances it up.

jj456 wrote:Sounds metagame breaking and gimmicky. I thought the idea behind updates was to add new content and balance certain roles, not take the current game and completely flip it on its head.

An emote system should be cosmetic only and redesigning the whole game around some gimmick sounds awful. It's like I won't even be able to play this game in a year or two since it will be so far from resembling the game it is now.

Patch 1.5 added some much needed balance and gave mafia the buff it needed, but the 1.59 patch seems to be almost universally hated (and my God, are the skins absolutely hideous and clash so bad with the art design and anatomy of the rest of the skins.. :| ). Now with the very next patch you are adding more ridiculous bs.

I don't know if you've already found out, but they ARE cosmetic. Everything else that was said is just speculations of how players will use the system. But in essense it is just cosmetic(i.e. The way the game pans out will be as usual, its just that players now have an option to anonymously 'poke' someone else to try to extract an unusual response from them, which can be something like self healing and alerting etc etc) The taunt/emote does nothing to the flow of the game unless the player recieving it feels that it would be a good idea to heal/alert etc.

Quite right on both points. I'm a little bit pissed that some people are getting really worked up over a misconception. :x

Ahahahaha... when you send a taunt to someone and they panic. Great for mafia members.

So turns out taunts can lead to some slight abuse

2 examples:

First game, I was witch, I found SK and made him attack a known transport, who conveniently chose to swap with me so I killed myself and never got to update my will (if I die as witch I sell everyone out)
So ever day I'd taunt him and only him, town caught on and hung him, funny part was he called me out while he was still alive lol

Even worse though is the second
This mostly applies to Escort/Jailor, though I'm sure others could as well

I added a simple line in my will saying
"I will spam taunts if I die to the sk I blocked"

And just like that town knew whether or not my target was sk/ww

Just wanted to throw that out there, just a cheap way to communicate with the living

funny thing is: if the sk owns taunts he can spam them everywhere as soon as he reads that will, and get an innocent guy lynched that way.

This is certainly true as theres no indication as to who actually used the taunts, but it would be more likely for someone who planned to burn through taunts to use them rather than someone to just react to the will, especially with them currently being priced in TP only

I'm not saying its bad or anything, i enjoy the taunts, just maybe they should only be available to the living players

Also I can taunt 7-8 players during the discussion phase, strikes me as a little spammy but the reaction when its a town of frogs is still funny

It could also work the other way, an invest or LO etc hears a gunshot outside, he gets scared and decides to stay home rather than go out and investigate people.

Btw Great idea buuuutt im kinda confused how'd it look/work. Like would it be a literal visual thing or would it be a pop message like "You hear noise outside your home. You decide to stay home tonight."? I have a lot of other questions about it but im sure they're things you'll think of whilst developing it so I won't bother asking

that idea is overpowered
