WebGL Browser Support

Postby PyromonkeyGG » Thu May 28, 2020 10:49 pm

Welcome to the new Town of Salem 3.2, running on the Unity game engine via WebGL.

Originally, Town of Salem was built using a technology called Flash using ActionScript3 as our coding language. Flash is scheduled for deprecation at the end of 2020, meaning browsers will no longer support it. This is why we have been tirelessly working on changing our technology over to the Unity engine. Town of Salem was completely rewritten in a different technology, using a different programming language in order to make sure the game can live on for years to come.

Unfortunately, as time marches on and technology changes, some older computers may no longer be able to play Town of Salem on the web. If you have an old computer, old browser, or even a newer browser which does not yet support WebGL, the new Town of Salem may not work for you. Our primary target during development was to support Chrome and Chromium-based browsers, which have the lions share of the browser market. If you encounter issues running Town of Salem, first check that you are using the latest version of a compatible browser.

Supported Browsers (latest versions):
• Chrome
• Edge
• Brave
• Opera
• Firefox (with minor limitations such as no access to system clipboard at this time)

Unsupported Browsers (will not work):

• Safari (does not support WebGL 2.0)
• Internet Explorer (does not support WebGL)
• Mobile browsers of any kind, including Chrome. If you want to play Town of Salem on mobile, please download our Android version from the Play Store, or iOS version from the App Store, whichever is appropriate for your smartphone or tablet.
