I find reads lists cumbersome to produce, but at the same time they're helpful for establishing associations. The scum can get away with a lot if they have no obligation to acknowledge or make reads on each other, and can basically avoid interacting at all.

Tbh in NFM 2 there was such a huge emphasis put on the importance of reads that I thought they were way more critical than they really are for catching scum and wasted so much time PbPAing everyone.

Ok, I wanted to say that I agreed with Shortcut's first two points, but I didn't know the background behind the current experienced/newbie ratio until now. In response to Shortcut's assertion that too many experienced players would just leave the new players in the dust, I can vouch for Alzar, melanora, Metrion, SirCakez and Swordsworth in that they have in fact made an effort to make sure that all of us are involved in the game. I'm not sure if I can elaborate on that.
