Strategy Guide: Jester

Postby AppleStraw56 » Mon Jul 21, 2014 10:48 am

So hi everyone. I'm going to start making little strategy guides for some of the roles (cuz some of you hate them because "it's too hard to win with (insert role here)". Well first up: Jester

In case you're reading this and have no idea what Jester is:

Jester is a Neutral Evil role that has one of the weirdest win conditions ever: You have to get yourself lynched. You can become a Jester midgame if you are the Executioner and your target is murdered before you can get them lynched.

So here's the Strategy:

#1: Success chance- High
Say you were attacked last night. When they ask how you survived, don't answer them.

#2: Success chance- Medium
Stay silent for the whole game. When someone asks for your role, claim a unique role that has fallen in the graveyard. If this is successful, they will think you are lying to stay alive.

#3: Success chance- Medium
If a Mayor has confirmed themselves or someone has proven themselves a Spy, vote for them when the time comes. If this is successful, they will think you are someone evil trying to get them out of the way.

#4: Success chance- Low
T4lk l1k3 th15 f0r th3 3nt1r3 g4m3

What to do if they call you up to the gallows:

-DO try and make a semi-convincing case.
-DON'T say: "Okay you got me, go ahead and hang me."

I will add more later, so give meh feedback <3

My strategy as Jester: Pray to the powers that be~

Luckiest run ever as Jester was when a Jailor got me in night one, i claimed doctor and the jailor got killed by a serial killer...the entire freaking town voted me guilty on day 1 LOL

But i mostly lose cause this role freaking sucks lol
Favorite Role: Jailor :3
Loved Roles: Lookout, Vet, Transporter, BodyGuard, Consigliere.
Likeable Roles: Other Townies, Witch, Arsonist.
Okay Roles: Amnesiac, Jester, Janitor.
Passable Roles: Survie, SK, Other Maf.
Detested Roles: Executioner, Framer.

Here are some of my strategies:

1) Claim you're the Mayor on Day 2. When they ask you to reveal, ignore them for a while, and continue ranting. (But not for too long, or else you risk being found out)
Then, say that you don't want to reveal, because a doctor can't heal you. (If you haven't gotten any votes by now, you might be screwed)
As your defense, say something vague, or repeat yourself. (Or just call them f***ing noobs, works like a charm)
Now just wait for the votes to stack up. (NOTE: If you haven't been lynched by the end of that day, uh-oh..)

2) On the Day 2, claim that someone is immune. When asked how you know that, claim you're Vigilante.
People will now realize that you can't be Vigilante, (which you aren't) because he/she can't use their gun on the Night 1.
Instead, they'll assume you're either SK or Mafioso. (Which you're not either.)

That's all for now, folks!

Well i usually use a technique i call "The Vig Trick"

it's when i claim to have shot someone as vig N1 and that they are immune. The chance of this working is like 75%

Claim jester from day 1. If anyone asks your role just say that you are jester. It's a common tactic for SK's to claim jester so that nobody hangs them but people have now begun to catch on with that trick. If you keep telling people you are jester they might think you are SK and hang you.

Works about 50% of the time.

I find that this will just get you killed by a Vigilante or Jailor. Sometimes even Mafia/Sk if they're douchey.

I've never tried this one. I definitely think I will.
I've had pretty good success as Jesters by calling for "random lynchings". People get upset when you try to call for random lynchings, and they'll respond by lynching you instead. I've gotten lynched on the second day several times by doing this.

Although, it doesn't always work.

Another tip is in your defense, just don't say anything. People seem to think silence equals guilty. So, don't speak, and you are very unlikely to get people voting innocent. Most people will abstain, but you always get at least one or two guilty votes.

Yes, I was about to say the same thing. Wait until at least the vigilante is dead before acting guilty. Once, the town said they were going to lynch me the next day, but I got shot by the vigilante that night instead.

I seem to also get killed by the Mafia or SK quite often as Jester, and I don't know why. When I'm the SK or Mafia, I always keep the Jesters alive, because it's the townies that are your problem. If you have 2 townies and a jester, killing the jester only strengthens the voting power of the townies. But killing one of the townies and sparing the jester severely weakens their voting power.

But I always have to remain silent in the beginning of the game because I always get killed by Mafia or the SK if I don't. Don't speak at the beginning of the game unless you are attempting to get lynched on that day.

Hey guys... thanks for suggesting the vig trick... they very quickly realized I was a jester and I was brutally murdered the next night. Again, thank you.

Ctrl+C Ctrl+V

I usually never get myself lynched the day 2. The day 2 I spend analyzing how smart town is.

The most obvious is to be incredibly silent. People suspect silent people, and if you actually vote for someone, soon you'll get suspicious and might get random lynched. If some killing role is afk/misses hits, you can simulate afking.

If I am asked a role...
Versus stupid town something incredibly retarded like "detective" actually works.
Another good way versus stupid town is to ask "how do I jail" when you already got a jailor that does his job. But careful, you might get killed if you don't get hanged that day.
You can also say that you are witch but will help the town, but that will be too fat even for stupid people.
Saying that you were roleblocked but not sk when escort dies to sk works too.
If someone was cleaned and his role is unknown you can say something like "poor vigi" (just try to make this role believeable). I actually felt for this mistake once as a Janitor but noone paid attention to this. So guess its good vs smarter town.
Versus smarter you can call a role you can't be unless the trusted member is lying. (e.g. 2nd sheriff where 1 investigative is dead and another one called sheriff)
Versus smart town you can call being a spy, proceed to the fail of whisper-checking and easy lynch.
Another role that is good versus smart town is a transport where you have an arso. It is an "excuse" like doc for sk and transport is easy to confirm to be not-existent. Doc is worse because doc can't be denied so easily.
Its a good idea to call yourself an exe sometimes. Exe sounds like an excuse for being immune. Good vs smart town.

A good idea about how to play vs smart town is to show your rules incompetency. Say that person X is GF or Sheriff. Say that you are bodyguard and if someone visits you he dies. You are exe and your target is a guy killed at night. You just need to make it pretty understandable so you won't get too compicated, and not too obvious that they don't understand that person can't fall for such a mistake.

If someone accuses you, blame that he is a disguiser.

Sometimes bad guys help you. If someone shows he's blackmailed, there is most likely a blackmailer. If next day noone shows, you can do it yourself. There is some likelyhood, that another guy will start doing it too and you'll get suspicious. You might get framed. Even transport makes wonders (I once nearly got hanged because transport swapped me with mafia member, but he confirmed this. If you are not defending much...).
