Tactic for dealing with the Jailor (as good or evil)

Postby goliathvool » Wed Sep 02, 2015 5:16 pm

This is a tactic I use when I get jailed that almost invariably gets me off the hook. More often than not, you know the jailor is going to ask you for your role. So a way of winning him over is being ready with decent information without prompting.

I give a quick hi, my role (real or fake), and a brief explanation of what my strategy is with that role. This shows you're intelligent, prepared, respectful of the jailor's role, and expresses eagerness to help the town in general.

For example:

You have been hauled off to Jail
Me: Howdy!
Me: I'm the sheriff
Me: I'm going to check out 7 and 12 next, they've been strangely quiet in chat
Jailor: ROLE OR EXE
Jailor: Oh, okay cool
Me: Give me a code word so I can identify you if I need to

This works with both avoiding trigger-happy jailors, and deceiving town as an evil role. Unless it's late in the game and he's ruled out your role, you'll at the very least buy some days on the clock or confuse the lynch mob a bit.

I tend to be more suspicious of people who prelude their roleclaim with "Hi :D" or something to that effect, actually.

Fair enough, that is just how I communicate in general, so it works for me.

Don't give them any kind of attributes or meta-data, even as a townie.
You wouldnt want to have to keep the wiki open as an evil role. The more non-cooperative you are with such lame play as a townie, the less suspected you'll be as evil.

Dont greet the jailor. They might think you are stalling for time or trying to trick them.

An example jail chat when im jailed:

You have been hauled off to jail!
Me: -Role-
Me: -Pastes Will-
Jailor: Cool.
If jailor clicks execute button:
Me: Slow down. I have all i need to give. Im the -role-
Me: If you execute me now, you will lose your executions. Think twice.
Jailor either doesnt executes/keeps executes for idk reasons

Also, never insult the jailor either in jail or day chat. Most jailors tend to get angry and haul you and auto exe you.

This is true for some of the worse Vigilantes, too. I've died more than 2 times as Town because of this.

I usually execute people who tell me I'll lose my executions or that I'm lynching a townie.(if their role claim is suspicious)
There's also no perfect way to speak to the jailor since every jailor is different(they're a fucking human being after all).

I usually say Hi then my role, but I don't delay it.

I just want to be polite :(

One of the biggest problems with this tactic in my opinion. It's a suspicious suck-up that can be detected and seen through when playing with an intelligent Jailor whom actually knows what they're doing. I highly doubt that anyone would be nice enough to say, "Hi, I love you and you're the most beautiful human being Jailor, btw I'm a Sheriff xoxo <3 :D" of course, if you're 'deception skills' are of a 'good quality' maybe you could pull off this little tactic here. It's worked a few times, gotta admit, but it's not the most reasonable one.

You have been hauled off to jail!
Me: "Investigator."
Jailor: "Role"
Jailor: "Oh"
Jailor: "K"

Works every time.

What mode are you playing on? If this is Ranked, I find this sad.
Also, are you paraphrasing? Cause, if this is how your conversations go, the jailors need a check xD

It usually is.

I always wait a bit to see if the jailor actually has a brain or not.

Actually, now that I recall the ranked games I played today with the amount of times I got jailed as a scum yet the jailor believed everything I said.

//WhoIsHiringThesePeople

Also, whenever I wait for the Jailor, they seem to be suspecting me for not giving the first say. Then again, if I made the first say, I would still be executed. Lose-lose situation for one person. Darnit.
