If I remember correctly, they were visited by one SK and two Arsonists. It probably wouldn't work in Ranked, though, because then the only way you would know d1 that you were "Any" is if you were RM or a Vampire, so you'd probably get at least one TI on you.

Just had this happen.

I was Veteran. Day 1 I pulled off a pretty standard Vet bait, a guy in the Lobby was complaining about how he got killed for being host last game. I joked and said that we should kill him for being the host in a game I didn't like. The mafia were smart and didn't fall for this, it was just a test to see if he was a dumb evil role that would fall for it. Let's call the complainer Pseudo.

Night 2, the Jailor jails me. I explain that I'm veteran and Day 1 was a Vet bait. He tells me his name, completely trusting me. He then whispers to me in the morning confirming that it's not just bait to see if I kill him.

Night 3, I go on alert just because there are about 9 players left, the chances of an evil visiting are relatively high. I get a Mafia.

Day 4. An escort visited Pseudo and died to a Serial Killer. Someone said "GET PSEUDO" because this means that Pseudo is a Serial Killer. I knew otherwise, and I said "No, Pseudo is innocent. I jailed Pseudo earlier. If he were a Serial Killer, he would have killed me." The person calling him out says "Oh", so I named off people that could be the Serial Killer, further enhancing my vet bait. First, the SK will think that I'm Jailor, and then will think that I'm onto him.

Unfortunately, the Serial Killer was too smart and did not fall for this. I like to think it was a pretty good Vet bait though. Even if it actually got the Sheriff. :/

I don't really bait at all, but sometimes I just get an odd feeling, like "I'm going to die."
I killed a Mafioso and a Janitor with a n2 alert due to that feeling.

Other than that my best bait is CCing a TK claim with a Vig claim.

I generally don't role claim as Vet bait. THat tends to get invests/ sheriffs and Docs/BG's on me. Instead, I tend wait until at least N3 or 4, depending on the dead. Then I become vocal with the leads that are out there. Usually, someone more important is guarded, suspicious people are invested, and Evil wants me dead...but meets me on alert.

I never alert N1...no matter what.

I think the best vet baits are subtle. Quiet.
Good players will realize if you are baiting if you say things like "I'm bg I protected you" or "I'll revive the jailor, don't worry."

Calling that much attention to yourself (with no vig kills) would make the mafia not want to visit you (if they are that good).

Try and be supportive of the town. After the TP is dead or the TP is on someone else, be an aggressive and helpful townie. Whisper to confirmed townies anything. Don't outright bait the mafia (in most cases). Being subtle can save the game.

Claiming amnes and saying you'll work with town seems to work pretty okay - most towns won't bother touching you (because, you know, NB claim), but maf usually doesn't want you taking anything town.

I protect Survivor claims because they tend to be attacked. Don't know why people kill their allies, but they do.

I don't know... in rank games people like to troll survivor claims. Claim survivor d2... gets doused by arso... Or mafia attacks me... Becomes confirmed witch... mafia attacks me... Everyone hates me.

I did the thing that usually that gets me killed early on as a Vigilante.

I started whisper to random people saying, Role, or get shot... Oddly, the only person of 4 I whispered to me that didn't tell me a role was a RT vigilante trying to shoot me and killing mafia trying to kill me because I whispered or what. With me confirmed, and asking roles, I pretty much Mayor Game it as a confirmed veteran. This was before the Mayor nerfs in a ranked game though.

My recent attempts at this, they hunged me only due to the fact I claimed Vigilante, and there was a confirmed veteran. Even though, the wills confirmed that I was Veteran.

Most of the time I use the "fake vet bait" strategy.

Claiming Jailor N1, but no alert. (clever mafia and NKs will know I am baiting, so I dont use my alert 8 out of 10 times this works)
I alert N2 (if there is an RT or any vig, if he attacks me he would be dead anyway, so I dont feel any guilt for doing this)
And no alert until the moment the NK or mafia has no other choice then attacking me.
This is hard to tell when mafia/NK need to attack vet. (We are speaking here only baiting so I wont write an essay now)

Warning: never CC any jailor, you will be executed. (Sad but true)
If you are jailed just claim vet and you were baiting. (Obviuos)

(The strategy might work with jester too, especielly when the jailor (who jailed you) die N1. The TK (especielly a vet) will call you out)

First step: don't talk Day 1.

Second step: I choose someone random off the list on D2 and whisper "Role?"
If they ask me why, I tell them that I saw them last night or something suitably vague like that.

Then alert.
It generally works, since TI think I'm another TI. Occasionally I'll get a TP, but generally I'm also suspicious enough to not warrant protection.

I distinctly remember getting an NK, mafioso and janitor via this, on D2.

I'm not really a fan of cold voting. My personal GF strats are to let conflicts that don't involve mafia play out, but I also tend to kill quiet supporters of anti-mafia votes rather than the accusers themselves. I don't really like vet strats that don't work on me.

Another problem with cold voting is you're liable to get an investigative killed, since they will check you.

My favorite vet strat that minimizes collateral is to vocally support an investigative claim that seems legit, also I MIGHT whisper them. (taking the risk of BMer and tell them straight up I'm vet and ask for a whisper back) It's best to tell them you're vet if they are a lookout. I often land at least one bad guy before I run out of alerts.

Or instead of admitting vet, I might say "Don't watch me, I'm useless. Watch [other person who voted against evil] instead." BMer might think I'm safe to kill.
