Patch 2.5.1

Hey Townies,

Today we are releasing a bunch of quality of life improvements, a change to how the Sheriff feedback works, and a few bug fixes.

General bug fixes and optimizations:
Patching mode - When the servers are down for a patch you will now see a link to the patch notes instead of a connection error when attempting to play

Improved ban/suspensions - Added suspension/ban reason feedback on login. Players who are suspended/banned via trials, a moderator, or automatic systems such as referral abuse will now be notified of the reason upon login.

Fixed a bug where promotion popups were being shown to referral users who had not upgraded to premium yet.

Improved server and account security.

Fixed Guardian Angel achievements and "target was attacked" feedback.

Changed the "I am blackmailed." message while on trial to only be allowed to be said one time per trial.

Spam Improvements:

* You can no longer say the same thing twice in a row in a 10 second time period
* You can no longer type in all caps twice in a row in a 10 second time period
* Added a few common bad words found in reports to the chat filter

These changes were made to make it that people getting reported, and punished for spam are actually spamming maliciously.

Jailor vs Werewolf interaction bug fix:

A Jailed Werewolf will now direct attack his captor instead of doing a passive attack. This allows things like Bodyguard to protect the Jailor.

Sheriff change

Sheriff will now only see "Your target is suspicious" instead of specific feedback about Mafia/Coven/Werewolf/SK. This will allow NK roles to more easily claim they were framed when checked by a Sheriff.

Requesting Trial Codes
Due to some users posting their codes on public forums, them getting redeemed by bots, and the user who posted them being banned, we are further trying to encourage users to not post their codes on public forums. There is now a required "I Agree" captcha that needs to be filled out upon requesting codes. This is intended to make users take a second and read the message given when requesting codes.

All really good changes. The spam improvements are good, but heavy-handed, but I don't see how you could do it otherwise without a LOT of coding. So I completely understand it.

The Jailor/WW and Sheriff fixes are great, really gives a bit of a buff to NK with the second change.

Could you also look into the problem of people using extremely similar names in order to cause confusion? That is a serious issue in a lot of ranked games lately.

I believe that the spam restrictions are bad, since it is required in a ranked game where everyone is talking to spam all caps to make sure people get to read the important information that you are posting, i'd say you should instead allow a maximum of 4 identical messages with all caps on, it's hard to get a point across without spamming if everyone is posting wills and running accusations

I’m not sure the spam changes are going to do anything.

Interesting. I must be completely oblivious, because I never noticed GA achievements weren't working, and I use GA scrolls in All Any all the time. As for the attacked message, I've seen it work, but only while I'm alive (which makes sense). Maybe it depended who was attacking?

This is a really bad thought process. What is important or not is a subjective opinion that leads multiple people to capslock spam

It’s impossible to create any kind of filter that will catch 100% of spam without limiting the general public dramatically. Users who do things such as you described will get suspended in the trials. This change was just to help reduce the number of spam reports we get.

If you healed your target while you were dead there were a lot of cases where you wouldn’t get the achievement or the “your target was attacked” message

So we have a massive jailor buff and werewolf nerf

I guess since jailor meta died it actually makes semse,even if the WW had a strong incentive in fooling the jailor while jailed.

Really don't think I would classify it as a massive jailor buff. First of all it was a bug fix, second it only matters when a Jailor jails a WW, doesnt execute him and a protective role like bodyguard protects the jailor. That's a lot of things that have to line up for this to even matter.

But it's a buff for the jailor,not a nerf...EDIT-- NVM you fixed the typo
I don't know if you are the same achilles i played with,but it did happen quite a lot of times during the jailor meta.

And many jailors died with their bodyguards while jailing a Wolf,it became a known fact that it'd happen.
As players we weren't aware it was a bug,we believed it was a feature,and a cool one if you ask me.

What about people pretending to be blackmailed?

You won't be able to fake being blackmailed as you will be restricted how many times you can post the same thing.

I was going to make a new topic in the Suggestions subforum but I think it's not necessary since I'm only going to complain about the recent patch.

Supposedly, they've nerfed Sheriff but in my opinion, it's still the same, since he still can spot the exact evil roles as before (e.g in a ww/sk game, sheriff can still find 3 of the mafias and the ww/sk, even if it only says they're suspicious, the town will still know who to hang, so there's no nerf in that)

Now, BGs (and Doctors, I think, not sure) can guard/heal the jailor when he has jailed the ww/sk, which makes it harder for ww/sk to win since most jailors come out D1 and ask for TP/LO, and of course, TP/LO will stay on Jailor for as long as they can. I don't really know if that was meant to be a 'NK buff' but I'd say it's more of a NK nerf. If it was hard to win as ww/sk before, it's HARDER now.

Either NK gets a buff or town gets a nerf because it's almost impossible to win as mafia/NK, out of 10 mafia games I play I win 1, and out of 10 NK games I play, since I started playing again in November, I've won 0 games, so it's just become a constant wishing for not getting mafia or NK, but guess what? I don't know what's the game's criteria to assign roles to players, all I know is I've gotten NK once and 3 mafia roles IN A ROw, and that's why I'm complaining, because I've lost every single game since I got NK, and I was close to win, I'm not that bad, but sadly, I came upon a game (when I was NK) where town had 1 Retributionist, 2 Escorts and a f-ing Transporter, what are the chances of winning as NK or mafia...

Town needs to be nerfed asap, and NK/mafia needs a buff. Thanks.

What's most important may not always be a universal truth, but if i have some piece of information to confirm a town memeber that's about to get hung, i think i should be able to post it in a way that makes town read it, Town of salem games are chaotic and messasges usually go so fast that there's not enough time to read every bit of information, and a very important will should have a way of being easier to read than the clueless escort's "guilty or inno?" question, the reason why people spam all caps is usually because they have usefull information(which might be fake) based on my experience, therefore, i think this hurts the game way more than it helps it, for every troll spam there's at least 10 players who spam trying to change voting people's minds with information, heck, even stuff like the jailor being able to flood saying "HE DIDNT CLAIM THAT IN JAIL" is usefull information usually.
Also, with regards to multiple people caps locks spamming... What is the problem with that? Yes, important information might be subjective, so... we just take everyone's options out, because they might be wrong according to someone else? That just makes no sense, that's a really bad thought process if you ask me.
At the end of the day, this game has a ranked mode, therefore, people are trying to compete against each other, and for that, they look for advantages, that's the whole point of it, and you are just taking the biggest tool people currently have to influence their match outcome, making the game even more grind-to-masters instead of influencing your winrate even more, keep in mind that most people won't get vigilante or jailor, the chat is the only way to kill someone who they believe is evil, and that should not be nerfed, you are basically nerfing good players here.

Sounds like the correct solution is instead, to make flooding not reportable as long as it's game information what's being flooded, i hate random spam as much as anyone else, but i honestly, i barely play the game since this patch rolled out, i can't be bothered to find clever ways to bypass a system that shouldnt even be in place.

With regards to the term spam, or spamming, the definition of spam doesn't really fit here, since it's not emails, or advertisement, i'd say it's rather flood, or flooding; spamming should be bannable, flooding should not, the cap should probably be lower than before but definetly higher than it is right now.
On another note: This current filter only makes the game harder and more frustrating, as now you have to use a different method for spamming, what i have seen is the most popular is something along the lines of:
"1He's lying, he wasnt visited by mafia (info here)"
"2He's lying, he wasnt visited by mafia (info here)"
"3He's lying, he wasnt visited by mafia (info here)"

Urban dictionary on flooding:
Used in instant-messaging chatrooms by people who want to disrupt the chat, and possibly cause the room to malfunction. The same message is sent over and over again at a rapid speed. This is usually achieved by copying a message and then pasting it/hitting enter as fast as possible. The message is usually very long and offensive, but sometimes comprises of just 1 character.

My biggest problem with this patch is that if you are WW and are jailed, if there is a BG on the jailor then you automatically die, there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop that scenario :/

It was a bug, that the Bodyguard did not counterattack the jailed Werewolf, so there was the fix for that. If it should be consitent either both Sk and ww die when they got jailed by a Bg'd Jailor, or both stay alive when they counterattack.
